Lieferkettengesetz in Practice: The Role of Procurement
Live Q&A Session
About:
The German Corporate Due Diligence Law (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz or "LkSG") will enter into force in less than 15 months, on 1 January 2023. The law creates new obligations for companies to regularly identify, prevent and mitigate human rights risks associated with their own activities and those of their subsidiaries and suppliers. It also creates new liability risks for companies that fail to comply with this human rights due diligence requirement.
In this transitional period until January 2023, companies are preparing for these new obligations by revising their existing risk management systems, establishing and integrating new human rights due diligence processes and training their employees on human rights.
In this fourth session of the "Ask the Experts" series, experts from EcoVadis and Löning will discuss the role of the procurement function in implementing each step of human rights due diligence in line with the LkSG.
By attending this Q&A session, you will learn about:
- Embedding results from initial human rights risk analyses into corporate sustainability strategy
- Gathering accurate data from your suppliers and assessing it effectively
- Integrating sustainability as a purchasing criterion
- Ensuring that your corporate sustainability strategy is adhered to by your suppliers
- Promoting measures to improve and track suppliers' sustainability performance
Additional Resources:
If you would like to gain a better understanding of the corporate implications of the law prior to the session, please read Löning's briefing paper that summarizes the reasoning behind the law and the core requirements for companies subject to it. This paper was published in June 2021 and is also available in German here.
