FfD4 - Reforming Global Financial Governance
IDOS’ Virtual Press Briefing
Taking place from 30 June to 3 July 2025 in Spain, the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) comes at a critical time for international cooperation. Unilateral actions by the Trump administration and other powerful international actors are straining global collaboration, particularly in the area of climate policy, while international cooperation is facing growing scepticism.
In this challenging geopolitical context, FfD4 will discuss reforms of the international financial architecture to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals – reforms that have become even more urgent in light of the current crisis in development finance, marked by rising debt burdens in the Global South, shrinking development cooperation budgets, and huge financing needs for the socioecological transformation.
Ahead of the conference, IDOS invites you to a virtual press briefing offering insights from our experts on the FfD process and its objectives, as well as key topics that will shape the agenda of the conference. The discussion will be moderated by Prof. Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Director of IDOS, and will focus on major reform areas and their implications for global development policy:
How can FfD4 contribute to prevent and resolve debt crises?
Dr Kathrin Berensmann, Senior Researcher, IDOS
How can FfD4 support the ongoing reform of the Multilateral Development Banks?
Dr Yabibal Walle, Senior Researcher, IDOS
Will international tax cooperation survive FfD4?
Dr Christian von Haldenwang, Senior Researcher, IDOS
IDOS experts have closely followed the negotiation process preparing the conference and will be present at the conference in Seville.
The briefing will be held in English. To attend, please register by Wednesday, 25 June, via email to presse@idos-research.de. All registered participants will receive the Zoom access link ahead of the briefing.
